Ballers 4 Autism Programme

Ballers 4 Autism Programme (B4A)

In partnership with Lambeth council, we will be running a programme for those living with Autism, caring for someone with Autism, working with Autism, and wanting to understand Autism. In fact, it’s information that everyone should know, given the increase in the number of people being diagnosed with the condition. In addition, a number of our members who have a physical disability are also on the Autistic spectrum. Realising just how many people are living with or are affected by the condition gave us the impetus to want to do something positive about it.

Autistic people often have both behavioural issues and/or communication issues, which are often misunderstood by others. Our programme is designed to offer insights, propose solutions and to be informative. There is also some evidence to suggest that Autism in teenagers may be linked to the rise in youth crime.

(In Lambeth, over 4,100 people are registered with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In Lambeth, most people with autism are White (39%) or Black (32%). More males (72%) are diagnosed with autism compared to females (28%). 50% of those diagnosed with autism in Lambeth are between 6 and 18 years old.

In the UK More than one in 100 people are autistic and there are at least 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK).

We will be holding Wheelchair Basketball and wheelchair sports sessions as well as weekly workshops on
